Structure of a Tea Ceremony

We can break down a Tea Ceremony into 7 parts:

1) Set Up

2) Preparation

3) Arrival of the Groom, Door games and Trays Exchange

4) Introduction of both side of the families, arrival of the Bride, pay respect to the Ancestors Altar, light up the wedding candles

5) Presentation of the trays, presentation of the wedding jewelry to the Bride

6) Giving of the tea and receiving of Li Xi from relatives, end of formalities

7) Family photos

1) Set Up - Groom's family

We start with the Groom's side in the morning,

The Groom's side flower gate will have the words " Tân Hôn ", it means that this is the Groom's residence and the Groom's family will prepare gifts to bring to the Bride's family.

The gifts normally come in even number such as 6, 8 or 10. We need 1 person to carry 1 gift and if you have a Roast Pig we need 2 extra people to carry the Roast Pig.

If you have an early start, we need to make sure all the people who carry the gifts need to be at the Groom's residence on time and ready to go.

The trays normally consist of many gifts, below are the main things that you need to have in a traditional Vietnamese Tea ceremony:

1) Wine/Tea for the representatives and jewelry gifts for the Bride (Image 1)

(Please note the best man usually hold this tray, the rest of the trays the orders are not important since they will be all covered during the exchange)

2) Wedding Candles (Image 2)

3) Trau Cau (Image 3)

4) Husband and Wife cakes (Image 4)

5) Wine (Image 5)

6) Tea (Image 6)

7) Fruit (Image 7)
